In 1997, a group of Nîmois artists noticed that there was no significant artistic event in Nîmes to gather all audiences and all contemporary art disciplines.

It was decided to create in this city in 1998 an artistic movement of scale.

It seemed necessary, in order to widen the diffusion area, to work in public and private spaces as well as heritage sites, and thus to touch and surprise an audience new to artistic events.

The collective also thought it could be interesting to establish a European network of exchange between artististic associations. In Nîmes and all over our area, international meetings dedicated to contemporary artistic creation could take place. During these meetings reflection and demonstration could meet in order to attract, for one month, the creative world of art…

This year the European Meetings of Contemporary Art express the realization of this project as artists from 16 different countries made proposals and, after Nîmes (from July 1st to the 14th), we will exhibit in Mende, Lozère (from August 1st to the 15th) and so starting an itinerant travel into european countries : Kaunas (Lituania) from the 4th to the 17th september 2006, Varsovie (Poland) from the 23th september to the 7th october, and Edimburg (scotland) From the 14th to the 28th october 2006
